The surge in high rise construction has spurred the growth of condominiums, apartments, hotels and office buildings in the metropolitan areas throughout California. Los Angeles to Long Beach, San Francisco to Oakland to San Jose, San Diego, Sacramento, as well as the Orange County cities of Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Irvine and Santa Ana have all experienced an increase in high rise buildings construction.
According to the California Building Code, when a high rise building exceeds 75 feet in height it must have emergency standby power and an emergency fire pump for the automatic fire sprinkler system. Diesel Emergency Generators are used to provide emergency power, and when applicable Diesel Fire Pumps for the automatic fire sprinkler system.
Diesel Standby Emergency Generators and Diesel Powered Fire Pumps are commonly installed on floors below the grade level, and in nearly all cases the diesel tanks storage capacity is at least 55 gallons. In California those high rise buildings fall under regulatory requirements for Tanks In an Underground Area (TIUGA), and this means a spill plan otherwise known as an SPCC Plan is required.
In addition to ensuring your facility satisfies the TIUGA and SPCC Plan regulations the ultimate goal is to prevent a potential diesel fuel spill, contain potential spills and prevent diesel fuel from potentially entering into the drain pipe system.
